Ice in the St. Lawrence Seaway has stranded a U-S Navy littoral combat ship in Montreal. The newly-commissioned U-S-S Little Rock made a routine stop Christmas Eve on its way to its home port in Florida. The Seaway was freezing over and the Little Rock was trapped. Marinette Marine constructed the littoral combat ship, building it for speed and maneuverability — not ice-breaking. The St. Lawrence Seaway was officially closed January 11th and it usually re-opens in March. The ship’s crew was issued cold-weather gear and members will focus on training, readiness and certifications while stranded.
