The National Weather Service confirms a severe storm system Monday afternoon knocked down “numerous trees and powerlines” and dumped egg-sized hail in some parts of southern Wisconsin.
A roof was blown off an apartment building on Madison’s east side, damaging vehicles parked below.
Dane County Emergency Management officials say dozens of people will need temporary housing.
At the storm’s peak, an estimated 40,000 customers were without electric service in southern and southeastern parts of the state.
No serious injuries were reported.
Damage reports are still being completed.
