An inaugural fundraiser was held Saturday at Seven Lakes Golf Course near Whitelaw to raise money and awareness for those who are disabled and have to live life with the use of one hand.
Cato resident Sarah Larson was the organizer of the “Swing Into Summer” event to support the North America One-Armed Golfers Association.
“We had 32 teams sign up,” she explained. “Two didn’t show because they had other engagements, and probably thought it was going to rain. We ended up with 30 teams, and we would have been full with 36. I am more than pleased with the first-time event.”
Larson explained that all golfers had to use just one hand on hole #10.
“I have never laughed so hard,” she said. “Seeing people try, and realizing how hard it is to hit the ball with one hand, it was an all-new respect, I think, they were showcasing for us that are one-handed. I was able to give tips and tricks for them as well. It was a good day.”
The event’s major sponsor was seehafernews.com.
Sarah tells us she is representing Wisconsin at the first-ever USGA Adaptive Golf outing next month at Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Larson is also looking forward to traveling to Europe in 2024 for a USA vs. England disabled golf matchup, which was postponed by Covid 19 two years ago.
