Yesterday was the final day of school for students in the Manitowoc Public School District, and this afternoon will be the final time Superintendent Mark Holzman will be in charge of a Lincoln High School graduation.
Holzman was on the WCUB Breakfast Club yesterday, where he looked back on what has been an event-filled school year.
He said, “[There were] a lot of challenges throughout the year, but thank you so much to our staff, and community, and students for the resilience of just hanging in there.”
Manitowoc Lincoln Seniors will be taking part in the iconic Ships graduation ceremony this afternoon inside the bowl outside of the school, which will be aired on 97.1 FM WCUB and at CubRadio.com starting at 1:00 p.m.
“For those who haven’t been familiar with it, Lincoln High School graduates dress up,” Holzman explained. “We don’t wear a cap and gown, we wear our formals,” Holzman explained. “Our kids have a partner they walk down with, and there is a very formal entrance.”
Holzman also reflected on his time in Manitowoc.
He first joined the district in 2015 and said that he has enjoyed working with many amazing people over his tenure.
“The work is great, but the people are even better,” he said. “That’s what makes the Manitowoc Public School District a great place. It’s because of the colleagues and people we work with.”
Holzman will begin his new job as Superintendent in Janesville next school year, while the MPSD School Board continues to search for an interim Superintendent, before hiring someone full time through a third-party search firm.
