After steady showers for most of the day, the weather cleared up nicely for the Shipbuilders Football fundraiser at The Wharf in downtown Manitowoc last night.
A large contingent of coaches, athletes, parents, and fans turned out for food, music, and skills activities, all to support the Lincoln High School Booster Club’s effort to send the team on the SS Badger to play Mona Shores, Michigan in week 2 of the season August 26th.
Varsity football coach Greg Enz singled out two people in particular for their efforts, telling Seehafer News, “I credit the booster members Angela Lettenbergerand Jeremy Gill for really coming together with some good ideas and really trying to look at the details to try and pull off a great night.”
As for what the series between the Ships and Sailors will be called, Enz explains. “We’re debating between two names and it hasn’t been finalized with Mona Shores. It’s either going to be the battle for the anchor because we’ve got the anchor with our M and our logo and they have MS with an anchor dividing the two letters. The other suggestion was the battle for the Badger, but either way, it’s going to fit into one of those ideas when it’s said and done.”
The two schools have agreed to have a cookout together the night before the game and bring a little of a bowl-like atmosphere to the event.
Enz added, “It’s going to be competition come 7:00 kickoff Friday night. But, it’s going to be something unique and different than any other high school kid could ever say they’ve experienced in their career.”
The Badger Carferry is also offering some rate options for fans looking to attend with a window of opportunity from Wednesday, August 24th to Sunday, the 28th.
