Numerous High School athletes from the area captured four Gold medals this weekend at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships in La Crosse.
Valders senior Shane Griepentrog is a double state champion after winning both the Division-2 1600 and 3200 meters.
Manitowoc Lutheran has a state champion in MonRaye Ermis, who won the Division-3 shot put with a throw of 39-feet, 1 and a quarter inches.
Brock Dortman of Howards Grove struck gold in the D-3 200 meter dash in 22.47 seconds.
The Lancers’ Emily Marohn placed 3rd and was on the podium following a school-record effort in the triple jump of 36-feet, 10 and 3 quarter inches, Brooklyn Luebke finished 4th in the 3200 meters in a time of 11:21.75 which allowed her to re-set her own school record by 23 seconds.
The Lutheran Girls turned in the best team finish among area schools, tied for 8th, with 3 podium finishes for 21 points from 3 individual qualifiers in 6 events.
Manitowoc Lincoln had one medal winner in freshman Tessa Campbell, who stood on the podium after she placed 6th in the D-1 400 meter dash in a time of 58.90 seconds.
Reedsville’s Brennen Dvorachek capped off his outstanding career for the Panthers with 2nd and 3rd place medals in the 300 and 100-meter hurdles respectively.
Other state highlights included the Two Rivers boys 800-meter relay placing 3rd, Mikaela Helling of the Raiders 5th in the 1600 meter run, Simon Alexander of Denmark medaled in both the 200 and 400 where he was 3rd and 6th at state, and Vikings’ teammate Donovan Short ended up 4th in the high jump.
Howards Grove also had its’ 800 and 400m Boys relay teams on the podium with 2nd and 4th place efforts.
