A major event to honor Manitowoc’s direct connection to craft brewing is being planned this summer on the city’s waterfront.
Ron Schroder, Director of Marketing for Briess Malt & Ingredients Company, tells Seehafer News that Malt City Brewfest is scheduled for Saturday, July 23rd from 2:00 until 5:30 p.m. at Riverfront Park, across from the library.
“There isn’t a summer beer festival in the community right now and since Briess makes the malt that goes into a lot of craft beers in Wisconsin and across the country,” he explained. “We thought it was a great thing to celebrate that our employees right here in Manitowoc are making the malt which goes across the country and around the world.”
Incidentally, when Briess bought the former Anheuser Busch plant in Manitowoc in 2014 there were only 5 employees, but that number has grown to 60 now.
Schroder explained craft beer provides variety to people who enjoy drinking beer in terms of flavor, color, and style.
“At the Malt City Brewfest, we will have more than 30 craft brewers personally on hand pouring beer and more than 100 different beers in total,” he said. “So, everyone will be able to find some beers they like. Just to give you an idea of some of the brewers who are well known and who will be there, we have Pet Skull and Sabbatical from here in Manitowoc, as well as 3 Sheeps, Central Waters, and New Glarus.”
The ‘fest will also feature several food trucks serving summer favorites and live music from the Honeygoats, one of the most popular local bands in Northeast Wisconsin.
Some of the proceeds will be donated to local charities with this year’s recipients being the Lakeshore Humane Society and Pink Heals of Manitowoc County.
Ticket prices are $45.00 for general admission, $75.00 for VIP’s and $15.00 tickets are available for designated drivers.
