After being delayed by a parts shortage on day-1 and high winds on day-2, the tower maintenance has again been delayed after the lead tower climber tested positive for COVID-19.
Saturday, WOMT went off the air at 10 am while climbers scaled the 495-foot structure and started replacing the east guy wire. The lead man had a fever and took a rapid covid test which was positive. Work was suspended after the replacement was completed on a single wire. The crew will be recalled at a later date to complete this project.
This preventative maintenance project involved replacing 3 of the 30 guy wires to stabilize the structure and now is on pause just short of the halfway mark.
