The sun is shining, the brilliant blue water is shimmering, and you’re ready for summer to begin! Summer visions of boat rides, beach time, and outdoor fun wouldn’t be complete without a good book to read. Manitowoc Public Library is ready, too!
Books are part of those summer vacations, too. Take books along on vacation with the free Libby app. Download ebooks or audiobooks ahead of time and then enjoy them during car rides, plane rides, bike rides, or long walks. No internet connection is needed!
Reading is one of the best parts of summer. To make it more appealing, MPL is offering our annual Summer Reading Program for readers of ALL ages. We love to share your joy of reading and what better way to do that than to offer cool prizes and rewards!
The Summer Reading Program couldn’t be simpler—read and get rewarded. Summer Reading begins Sunday, June 12 and runs through Saturday, July 30. To complete the program, just read for twenty-eight days during that timeframe. For every seven days of reading, you win a spin on the prize wheel. There will be different prize wheels for Adults, Teens, and Children.

Prizes on the wheel will change up throughout the summer, so each time you come in, be prepared to be surprised! Adult prizes will include gift cards, seed packets, chip clips, and book coupons. Prizes for teens and children include free books, gift cards, candy bars and—for the more adventurous– suckers! Gift cards may vary and will be available while supplies last.
MPL also created two great opportunities to register for the SRP at places you probably wouldn’t have expected to see a reading program sign-up. A pair of local businesses stepped-up to join in on the fun. On Wednesday, May 18, MPL staff set up shop at PetSkull Brewing Co. to help patrons 21-and-over sign-up (those that did received a FREE 5-ounce beer courtesy of PetSkull and MPL swag with our new logo). For the younger crowd—and young at heart—we’re venturing to Cedar Crest Ice Cream Factory & Parlor on Thursday, June 9 from 12-2 PM. Everyone that signs up at Cedar Crest will receive a free plain ice cream cone and some of that new swag we mentioned earlier.
Of course, anyone that doesn’t feel like heading out to register for SRP can sign-up using the Beanstack app at www.manitowoclibrary.org/resources/beanstack. If using an app just isn’t your thing, there will be paper trackers available at Manitowoc Public Library beginning Sunday, June 12.
Summer at the Library wouldn’t be complete without fun programs and activities. Our “Storytime on the Road” program will be back this summer. Come join us at various locations around Manitowoc and hear storytime outside! We will be at Lincoln Park Zoo, Woodland Dunes, Washington Park, and other locales. Teens can get creative at the Library this summer with tie-dye T-shirt making, giant games, and a D&D adventure time. And adults can enjoy a hands-on Pop Art Experience, Flower Power online gardening tutorials, and “An Evening with Sarah Vowell”—an interview-style presentation at Capitol Civic Center with the author, historian, and star of the Pixar Animation Studios film series, The Incredibles.
There is lots to do at the Library during the summer. Check out our Events Calendar on our website (www.manitowoclibrary.org/events/month) for all the details!
