A Republican member of the bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission abruptly resigned just as members were to elect a new chair.
Dean Knudson said his efforts to call out false claims surrounding the 2020 election have gotten him branded as a “RINO,” or Republican-in-name-only.
A vote on a new chair of the commission has now been delayed until Knudson’s successor can by appointed by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos. Knudson and Republican commissioner Robert Spindell are the only eligible commissioners to be elected chair for the next two years, under rules requiring Republican and Democratic members take turns.
Spindell has made claims that the 2020 election was stolen and was also one of the false electors named by Republicans after President Joe Biden won the state.
