Redshirt junior Josie Schaefer booked her ticket to the NCAA Championships to highlight the first day of competition at the NCAA West Preliminary Round for the Wisconsin women’s track and field team.
Schaefer advanced to her fifth-straight NCAA Championship by finishing eighth in the shot put, throwing 55 feet, 10 1/2 inches.
Four Badgers also advanced to the next round of their respective events at the prelims, led by Bianca Stubler’s school record in the 400-meter hurdles.
The senior from Menomonee Falls recorded the fourth-fastest time on the day, 57.13.
Her time broke the previous best U-W time of 57.16 set by Tracy Mattes in 1990.
Junior Victoria Heiligenthal qualified for the next round in the 1,500 meters, junior Destiny Huven was an automatic qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles, and sophomore Kiley Robbins moved on in the 100-meter.
