In just a couple of weeks, the fine folks at Ascend Services will be at Par 5 Resort in Mishicot for their Swing Fore Ascend fundraiser.
Registration will begin at 11:00 on Thursday, June 16th and will include 9 holes of golf.
We spoke with Deanna Genske, the Executive Director of the Manitowoc-based organization, and she said that this event is designed to be more than just a way to collect money.
“We look at the fundraisers we are creating…as more of a fun way to connect with our community,” she said. “Yea, the dollars that are raised are definitely needed for the organization and to support our mission, but I think ultimately we just like connecting in fun ways with our community.”
Part of that will be by having some of the people they serve on the course interacting with the participants.
The event will also have a focus on what makes Ascend Services such a great organization.
“Our tagline her at Ascend is “Inspire, Empower, Connect’,” Genske explained. “So the ‘Inspire’ is going to be ‘Putt with a Pro’, our empower is going to be a game call ‘Chip the Duck’, and ‘Connect’ is going to be basically a selfie stick at one of the holes.”
There will be several mini-competitions on several holes as well such as the longest drive and closest to the pin.
One thing that always stands out about Ascend fundraisers are the names. Their ax-throwing fundraiser, known as Throw With All Your Heart, has a very memorable name, and the Swing Fore Ascend is no different.
Deanna told us she has a “great team and a great marketing coordinator” who comes up with these names.
Plus several members of her staff are passionate about golf so this one just kind of came together.
