The man who had a three-hour standoff with police on top of an Appleton church roof last week has been charged.
33-year-old James Cooper has been charged with 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety with Use of a Dangerous Weapon, Discharge of a Firearm in a School Zone, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of a Firearm as a Felon, and Bail Jumping.
He was arrested on May 13th after police were called to St. Bernadette’s Parish on a report of a man pointing a gun at others and himself.
The man, Cooper, climbed onto the roof of the church when officers arrived and fired a round into the air.
Police LT Meghan Cash said in a news release that Cooper was in crisis and “having a very bad day”.
It is being reported that his “very bad day” began on May 11th, which was the one-year anniversary of the date his mother completed the act of suicide.
Cooper had been staying in Iris Place, located inside St. Bernadette’s but was asked to leave.
That is what allegedly began his outburst.
No one was injured during the incident.
