An 80-year Spring Breakfast tradition is returning to Woodland Dunes Nature Center in Two Rivers this weekend.
Nancy Nabak is the Communications Coordinator at Woodland Dunes and is excited to have the “Bird Breakfast” back again this year.
“It is this Saturday and it goes from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m.,” Nabak said. “We are serving pancakes, ham, fruit compote and then your breakfast beverages. We’re also offering guided bird hikes and nature hikes that morning.”
Tickets are $6.00 each and kids under four years of age are free.
Nabak and program coordinator Jessica Johnsrud agree it’s a unique way of celebrating migratory birds on the lakeshore.
Nancy explained to Seehafer News, “this actually started as a fundraiser for a church in Manitowoc County 80 years ago. There was a friendly competition for people in the community to go out and find as many birds as they could during peak migration. Then, after they were done, they all got together and counted up their numbers before went into local parks and actually grilled their breakfast on the grills in the community parks here.”
Those local residents interested in participating in the breakfast along with the guided bird and nature hikes this Saturday morning can still sign up through today.
