A home in De Pere caught fire yesterday, and it was reportedly completely avoidable.
Crews were sent to the 2.5-story home in the 400 block of North Superior Street at around 3:45 p.m. and found smoke coming from a first-floor window.
The two residents had already evacuated the home, so crews were able to quickly take down the flames.
The homeowner was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, and the damage was estimated to be around $10,000 worth.
The fire began in the kitchen, and the Fire Department said it ignited after flammable materials were placed on an electric stove.
The Department warned residents to not put items made of paper, plastic, wood, or cardboard on or around any heating or cooking appliance.
