The latest con being deployed by scam artists is targeting veterans.
The scammers have been pulling on the patriots’ heartstrings by playing off of their patriotism and feeding them lines about benefits and military charities.
Vets have been scammed for millions of dollars, which they thought were going to help their brothers in arms.
Last year, it is estimated that $267 million was taken from veterans, which is more than twice as much as in 2020.
Veterans, if you are called regarding making a donation to a group or charity, you are encouraged to hang up, and if you are interested in making a donation to a group like that, you should look up the number for the charity and call them yourself.
The AARP has also launched a Veterans Fraud Center, which aims to help keep our veterans safe from con artists and scammers.
