Authorities in Monroe County are confirming reports that four children died in a house fire in a rural area last Thursday night.
The Sparta area Fire District responded to a location in the Town of Little Falls shortly after 9:00 p.m.
Arriving firefighters were told people were trapped upstairs in the house and weren’t able to get out.
Several emergency responders tried to reach the victims but were driven back by the heat, smoke, and fire.
The house was fully engulfed by flames.
A fifth child who had been in the burning house was taken to a hospital, treated, and released.
That child had run to a neighboring house to call 911.
