Manitowoc County Health Officer Stephanie Lambert was on WOMT’s Be My Guest program Thursday with host Lee Douglas.
A caller posed a question to her about routine childhood vaccines and potential in-school immunizations.
“We absolutely recognize that routine immunizations have been neglected the last couple of years, and it is a priority for the Health Department to address this,” Lambert explained. “I actually have a meeting next week set up to see what we can do to bring up those routine immunizations in the school system.”
Regarding the current COVID-19 guidelines, Lambert said she encourages people to stay home if they’re feeling sick.
“People that are not feeling well are not feeling well are recommended to wear a mask to protect those around them,” she explained. “We are at a place in the pandemic where a large chunk of the population has had COVID, another large percentage of the population has been vaccinated, and those universal precautions are no longer recommended.”
That’s because we are at a low community level, meaning transmission is low, our hospitals are capable, and we have a multi-layer strategy, but if you are feeling ill, please stay home or wear a mask when possible.
