Briess Malt received a grain shipment today at the Port of Manitowoc. The move utilizes the Briess marine tower at the port to feed materials to their ten-story marine tower.
The ship Algoma Intrepid arrived at the port after a two-day journey from Port Colborne in Ontario, Canada.
According to Briess, the 650-foot ship will be docked in Manitowoc for about 30 hours while the grain is unloaded. The company is confident that reestablishing its ability to accept raw materials via waterways will strengthen its ability to meet the growing demand from customers for craft beer and food.
Briess operates over 150 grain silos at their Manitowoc site.
Their marine tower accepting the raw materials is actually linked to the malt plant via an underground tunnel that is three blocks long, which aims to provide efficient movement upon arrival.
The Wharf Manitowoc noted via social media that the ship is viewable from its deck during hours of operation, which are until 10:00 p.m. today and from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Friday. Also, the farmers’ market lot at The Wharf will be blocked off until the ship leaves, but street parking on Quay Street remains available.
