Habitat for Humanity Lakeside held a Raise the Roof fundraiser Friday night at the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake.
Niki Zohrab, Executive Director for the Sheboygan-based organization, spoke with Seehafer News and said “they wanted to take a little bit of a different twist” with suggested attire.
We wanted to make it casual since people have come out of COVID and maybe don’t fit into those formal clothes.” She added that people may want to “… have a little fun, dress up in some flannel and plaid, and just get together and socialize, network, listen to some good music and raise some money for a great organization. That’s what we’ve done. I think it’s been a great success!”
Zohrab explained that with Habitat for Humanity, “it’s not about a handout, but rather a hand up with their partner families.”
“We don’t just give away homes. We don’t give away repairs. We partner with them and we really help set them up for success.” Adding, “They put in sweat-equity hours, they also do financial education with us so that when they buy that home from us, they are ready to succeed.”
She also said they’re just completing a habitat home in Sheboygan that will be dedicated this week, with groundbreaking set this spring and summer on three more houses expected to be finished in the next 12 months.
Lake 98.1 WLKN-FM was a major event sponsor of the raise the roof fundraiser.
