Lindy Rae Backus, age 63, a resident in the town of Newton, entered eternal life on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the family residence with family by her side.
Lindy was born on June 5, 1958 in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Dolores (Meihsner) Luisier. Lindy attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1976. She continued her education at University of Wisconsin Green Bay where she received her degree in Early Childhood Education in December 2000 followed by attending University of Wisconsin LaCrosse where she received her Master’s Degree in Education in May 2007. Lindy was employed with the Manitowoc Public School System at Riverview School from August 2000 until she retired in 2016. On November 25, 1978 she married Thomas E. Backus at First German Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Lindy was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church where she was active with school activities and singing in the church choir. She was also a member of the Fox Valley Chorus Sweet Adelines, A Patch of Lakeshore Quilters, and a lifelong member of the Manitowoc-YMCA. She enjoyed downhill skiing, walking, and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and teaching them how to sew.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Tom; three sons, Jon (Stacy) Backus and their two children, Grace Lily and Jack Shawn; Joshua (Laura) Backus and their three children, Lyla Breeze, Justin Thomas, and Leah Allison; and Joel (Brittney) Backus and their two children, Anastasia Elaine and Veronica Mae; three brothers and one sister, James Luisier, Burton, MI; David (Stacy) Luisier, Fort Atkinson; Jennifer Martin, Oconomowoc; and Daniel (Ann) Luisier, Manitowoc; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lindy was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Dolores Luisier.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 916 Pine Street, Manitowoc with Rev. Matt Zimpelmann officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. The visitation will continue on Wednesday at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Lindy’s name which will be used for her grandchildren’s educations.
