The National Labor Relations Board will allow game testers at Raven Software in Middleton to vote for a union.
The federal agency made that decision over the protests from Raven’s parent company Activision-Blizzard.
The ruling went against Activision last week after it tried to claim that all 230 employees would have to vote for a union for it to be recognized.
The N.L.R.B. ruled the 21 members of Raven’s quality assurance department can determine separately from the rest of the company if they want to be unionized.
It would be the first union at a major U.S. gaming company.
Activision says it is reviewing its legal options and may appeal the Friday ruling.
