People living in Ashland are the latest to be encouraged not to mow their yards next month.
The “No Mow May” movement says letting the grass grow helps feed early-arriving bugs and birds. It creates habitat and forages like dandelion and clover blooms for early-season pollinators.
Members of the Ashland City Council voted this week to suspend enforcement of mowing ordinances until June 3rd.
Two years ago, Appleton became the first U-S city to adopt “No Mow May.”
The voluntary program has expanded to include Wausau, La Cross, Fort Atkinson, and Stevens Point.
