The former bus driver for Lamers has been officially charged with OWI.
70-year-old James Martin Nelson had driven 4th and 5th Grade students from Lincoln Elementary to Madison for a Field Trip on Monday when a student noticed an empty beer can under Nelson’s seat.
According to the police report, an officer with the Green Bay Police Department and his K9 companion Conley met Nelson at the school upon their return, and he admitted to drinking two beers while he waited for the children to return.
The officer conducted a field sobriety test, in which Nelson blew a .056, which is above the legal limit of .04 for those driving with a CDL.
Teachers and chaperones also told police that they noticed the bus hit a curb while on their trip, along with the rumble strips on the side of the highway multiple times.
Nelson was fired by Lamers and has been charged with OWI with Passengers Under 16-Years-Old.
