Just a week after Cavalier Johnson was sworn in as Milwaukee’s first elected Black mayor, Jose Perez became the first Latino to be elected president of the Common Council.
Tuesday’s vote for Perez was unanimous.
He has represented the 12th District on the city’s south side for a decade.
Perez will serve out the remainder of Johnson’s term as council president.
He was nominated for the position by Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa.
