The Powerball jackpot lottery game is celebrating 30 years of existence, including here in Wisconsin.
Ticket sales for the game began on April 22, 1992 in Wisconsin, replacing the original incarnation of Wisconsin’s Megabucks.
In the 30 years since the Powerball’s first drawing, Wisconsin has seen 19 Powerball jackpot wins. That is enough for fourth on the all-time list.
The most recent Powerball jackpot win from Wisconsin came on January 5 when a couple from Oneida split over $632 million with another winner from California.
Tickets for the lottery game are sold in 45 states throughout the nation, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Over half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold.
Powerball is joined by Mega Millions as the two multistate lottery games available in Wisconsin.
