After two recounts, and a card drawing tiebreaker, the race to select an alderman for Sheboygan’s 10th District is finally over.
Joseph Heidemann was confirmed to have won following another look-over of the votes on Friday.
The roller coaster ride of an election began the day after the Spring Election when Heidemann was named the winner by one single vote over incumbent Andre Walton.
However, an absentee ballot that was previously deemed invalid was determined to have been a good vote for Walton, bringing the race to a tie.
Heidemann was declared the winner after the two men drew cards, but Walton called for another recount, as he believed there could have been some more votes like the one that made the race a tie.
No other such votes were counted, and Walton accepted the outcome.
He also praised the work of the Board of Canvassers, saying “You have all stood up for democracy.”
