The Manitowoc Public School District held its final meeting with its current members this week. Three new Board Members were elected on April 5, and they will begin their duties on April 25.
We spoke with Superintendent Mark Holzman, who recently announced his departure from the MPSD as well, who explained what the next steps are for Matthew Spaulding, Matthew Phipps, and Tony Vlastelica.
“Between now and then, they take an oath of office,” he explained. “Our Board meeting begins on the 2, with what we call a reorganization. Now the board will need to choose a new President, annually we do that, vice president, and secretary/treasurer.”
All members of the Board is eligible for these roles, and the voting will be done prior to the official meeting.
“The president of the Board will select Board members to be on individual committees,” Holzman said. Those committees include the Personnel, Buildings and Grounds, Budget and Finance, and the Curriculum and Instruction Committees.
Holzman also said, “There are a few other auxiliary committees, but those are the main ones that meet on a regular basis, at least once a month.”
Holzman also thanked Dave Nickels, Meredith Sauer, and Lisa Johnston for their years of service on the MPSD Board of Education. Holzman will remain in his current position until the end of the school year, after which he has accepted an offer from the Janesville School District to be their Superintendent.
