Sixteen senior girls and sixteen senior boys from across the state have been selected as finalists to receive the 2022 WIAA’s Statewide Scholar-Athlete Award, including one young man from Reedsville.
Half of the 32 finalists have a grand point average of 4.0, while the average GPA among all finalists is 3.94. They have also earned a total of 291 varsity letters in their first 3.5 years of high school. That’s an average of nine letters per athlete, with the spring sports season yet to be completed.
Among the finalists is Brennen Dvoracheck of Reedsville High School. He’s the first nomination to come from Reedsville High in the history of the WIAA Scholar-Athlete program.
Dvoracheck quarterbacked the Reedsville Panthers football team to a state title last fall. He also won state track titles in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles events last year. In addition, he led the Panthers boys basketball team to the Division 5 playoffs last month while becoming the school’s all-time basketball scoring leader.
More than 1,000 scholar-athlete finalists have been recognized since the program began in 1984.
The awards ceremony can be viewed online at WIAAWI.org on May 1.
