
Six public school districts in Manitowoc County are receiving a combined $194,000 from the state for the purpose of Gov. Tony Evers’ Get Kids Ahead initiative.
The program was announced during his 2022 State of the State address and focuses on helping schools provide direct mental healthcare, offer parent training, mental first aid and trauma-based training, bolster family assistance and also hire school-employed mental health professionals.
A total of around $15,000,000 was allocated for Get Kids Ahead.
In Manitowoc County, the rewards break-down as follows:
- Manitowoc Public School District: $76,000;
- Two Rivers Public School District: $32,000;
- New Holstein: $25,000;
- Valders Area School District: $22,000;
- Mishicot: $21,000;
- Reedsville: $18,000.

In the establishment of the program. Gov. Evers noted that the program is not a competitive grant program. Rather, each public school district is set to receive a per-pupil allocation ranging from the minimum of $10,000 to higher awards for districts with larger student populations.
Of the districts that opted in, Milwaukee was given the largest share of the funds at around $966,000.
