Wisconsin basketball coach Greg Gard and Johnny Davis, his star player, fell just short in the competition for the Naismith awards for the men’s coach of the year and the men’s player of the year.
Ed Cooley of Providence was named the coach of the year and Kentucky forward Oscar Tshiebwe was the player of the year.
Wisconsin had been picked to finish 10th in the Big Ten this past season, but Gard and Davis led the Badgers to a share of the regular-season title with a record of 15-5.
