When an injured four-month-old boy was brought into St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point doctors found 15 fractured ribs in various stages of healing.
Doctors said his injuries were life-threatening.
Now, his 22-year-old father has been charged with child abuse.
David Schmies made his first appearance in Portage County Court earlier this week.
The victim had a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.
If convicted, Schmies faces up to 40 years in prison.
The boy has been transferred to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Marshfield for further treatment.
