As Manitowoc experiences a late taste of winter, many families and individuals are thinking about taking their own spring break siestas towards warmer temperatures. Doing so involves safety risks, but they can be prevented.
Michelle Reinen of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection spoke to Seehafer News, advising that anyone deciding to travel must take extra precautions to keep their personal information safe.
Paying by credit card whenever possible is a worthwhile preventative measure, according to Reinen, “… because you get those extra protections versus paying by cash or check should something not be as represented or not delivered, or just to run a follow on you as you’re traveling.”
She also offered a checklist of things to look out for before leaving Manitowoc.
- Verify and clarify all travel arrangements to confirm all of the information regarding reservation information in a written form, either paper or e-mail. This is especially important if a vacation is booked with a deep-discount dealer and not directly with the company where the vacation is being held.
- Learn the specific cancellation policies and have that information ready to pull up at a moment’s notice.
- If travel plans included cancellation insurance, be sure to have any and all information about that policy ready, should it need to be utilized at any time.
Ultimately, Reinen’s advice is to be careful. “We need everyone to participate in keeping their information safe when they travel.”
