Madison police say a man in his 30s was walking just outside the Dane County Jail Wednesday at about 5:00 p.m. when he was shot multiple times.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released.
Two persons of interest were taken into custody a short time later.
Investigators say they are working to determine if they were involved.
No officers witnessed the shooting, but one was just arriving for work and he was able to begin administering medical help almost immediately after the man was wounded.
The fatal shooting is the first homicide of 2022 in Madison.
