After taking two years off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, InCourage in Manitowoc is bringing back their Domestic Chef fundraiser.
The event, which will feature numerous local and area food experts, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 24th at the Par 5 Resort in Mishicot.
We spoke with Matt Johnson from the Domestic Violence center, who told us that they “…recruit around 20 chefs from around the area…to display their best recipes and best work” for those in attendance.
While a majority of the money raised will go toward helping InCourage with their general programming and operation, Johnson explained that they also do a lot of off-site work “…with individuals who don’t specifically need shelter services but still need help and recourses for domestic violence and sexual assault.”
He also said that “In Manitowoc County, last year we interacted with over 300 clients for both of those services.”
Johnson said that they have seen the number of people affected by domestic violence “rise in certain areas and decrease in certain areas”, but the subject remains an issue all over the country.
