Yesterday we reported on Governor Tony Evers’ release of $50 million in ARPA funds to be used for recruitment and retention of law enforcement in the state.
2nd District Assemblyman Shae Sortwell responded to the announcement, calling Evers a hypocrite.
In a written statement, Sortwell recalled the riots that occurred immediately after the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha.
He noted that the Governor stated that multiple people are “mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state,” before refusing federal assistance to respond to the riots.
Sortwell also noted several vetoes issued by the Governor on bills that aimed to develop NextGen 911 emergency services and to protect police budgets.
He went on to say “The governor has shown a disrespectful attitude towards Wisconsin’s law enforcement. He does not stand by them. But now, he will act like he cares as he seeks to buy a win with federal dollars during an election year. Wisconsin deserves better leadership.”
