The Packers front office is crunching the numbers and trying to get a big job done quickly.
The first steps toward getting under the N-F-L salary cap included an agreement with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and applying the franchise tag to wide receiver Davante Adams.
Rodgers says he will sign the deal he agreed to earlier this week.
The details of that deal will be a big factor.
Green Bay entered Tuesday an estimated $26.4 million over the cap.
Team officials have reportedly met with representatives of Preston Smith and Jaire Alexander about contract extensions.
Safety Adrian Amos would also be on that list.
Contracts for Billy Turner and Dean Lowry will be restructured and it’s likely that players like Za’Darius Smith and Randall Cobb won’t be back.
