Lane L. Willman, age 83, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 27, 2022.
Lane was born on May 11, 1938 in Manitowoc to the late Lester and Esther (Kunz) Willman. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1956. In January of 1957, Lane enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in Okinawa, Japan, Korea, and Lincoln Air Force Base in Nebraska until 1961. He then reenlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1962. Lane then went on to attend Manitowoc County Teacher’s College from where he graduated with a teaching certificate in 1963. He began teaching in Somers, WI. On August 17, 1963, Lane married Patricia Hentges in Sheboygan. In 1965, he returned to college at UW Oshkosh and received his Bachelors of Science degree. Lane was an elementary school teacher for the Manitowoc Public School District. During his teaching career, he received his Masters of Science Degree from UW Stevens Point. Lane enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, boating, working on vintage stereo sets, and taking cruises in his Mustang GT. He was also known to frequent the Covered Wagon where he and his friends would “solve the world’s problems.” He was a member of the former St. John’s United Church of Christ and First Reformed United Church of Christ where he had served on the church council, other committees, and also taught Sunday School. Lane was a member of Manitowoc Education Association, Wisconsin Education Association, and Peace United Church of Christ.
Survivors include Lane’s wife of 58 years, Patricia; daughter, Lori Willman, Brookfield; and son, Derek Willman, Portland, OR; sister, Nancy (David) Schleunes, Manitowoc; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 3022 at Peace United Church of Christ, 3613 Waldo Boulevard, Manitowoc with Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer officiating. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Following the memorial service, burial of Lane’s cremated remains will be held at Evergreen Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 88. The family will greet relatives and friends at Peace United Church of Christ on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
