A fire in Appleton early yesterday morning destroyed a chicken coop.
The fire in the 1200 block of East Park Hills Drive was reported to the Appleton Fire Department at 12:15 p.m. and was initially reported as a garage fire.
When crews arrived, however, they learned that the fire was actually located in a chicken coop behind the garage.
Crews were able to suppress the blaze in less than 15 minutes, but not before it caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.
All of the chickens survived the blaze but are now without their normal roosting place.
It appears as though the fire may have been caused by a heat lamp, as the fire department is encouraging those with chickens to use a secure method of mounting said lamps.
