The Green Bay Area Professional Firefighters Charity group has made a $5,000 donation to help those struggling with addiction in the Green Bay area.
The donation was granted to the Jackie Nitschke Center, which aims to help those in recovery.
The group consisting of firefighters from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, De Pere Fire & Rescue, and the Austin Straubel International Airport Firefighters decided to make the donation after seeing a rise in the number of calls involving those with substance addictions.
Ben Peters, Green Bay Metro firefighter/paramedic said that he and his fellow firefighters wanted to make a difference during times when they were not responding to a call.
With its campus in downtown Green Bay, the Jackie Nitschke Center offers treatment, support, and education to individuals and families through residential and outpatient services for those facing substance addictions.
