
Republican lawmakers say the Milwaukee Public School District needs drastic change – like splitting it into four or eight much-smaller districts.
They point to low reading and math scores.
The plan discussed during a Wednesday hearing at the State Capitol would have the state’s largest school district divided by 2024.
Milwaukee superintendent Keith Posley told lawmakers about current programs in his district and urged them to provide the resources needed to expand them.
The measure still has to make it through another before the full Assembly can vote on it.
