Manitowoc County Emergency Services is urging residents to consider obtaining flood insurance now in preparation for spring flooding. Most homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover damage from flooding.
Additionally, many policies require a 30-day waiting period before coverage takes effect.
Travis Waack, Manitowoc County’s Emergency Services Director told Seehafer News, “Ice jams in early spring are a major cause of flooding, making it critical for residents in flood-prone areas to get flood insurance coverage now so it takes effect ahead of any spring flooding that may occur.”
He encouraged residents to speak with their insurance agent to ensure they have the proper flood coverage.
Additional information on flood insurance can be found at FloodSmart.gov or by speaking to a local insurance agent.
