Richard Maurer, 86, of Manitowoc, died peacefully on February 4, 2022. Richard was born on July 9, 1935 in Manitowoc to Edgar Maurer and Adelhait (Rusch) Maurer. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1958. He married Barbara Westphal on November 24, 1956. Richard was the president and manager of Westphal’s of Manitowoc until his retirement in 1989.
Richard is survived by his sister, Junice Budnik, his sons, Dr. David Maurer (Debra) of Burnsville, MN, and Dr. James Maurer (Kaylyn) of Longmont, CO, and daughters, Dr. Sara Maurer of Anchorage, AK, and Catherine Maurer of Cumming, GA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Andrew, Daniel Patrick, and Daniel James Maurer, Lisa Jenkins, and Carl and James Morse, and 6 great grandchildren, Jayden, Blake, and Levi Morse, Colton Jenkins, and Tinley and Calvin Maurer. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his parents, and his brothers, Clifford and Charles.
Private funeral services for the family will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Jacob Hoff with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc.
