Over $11.1 million has been returned to Wisconsin consumers following the resolution of more than 11,750 consumer complaints in the state.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection made the announcement in a Monday press release. They attributed the eight-figure return to Wisconsinites as the result of investigations by the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
The top complaint category for consumer complaints in the state, for the third year in a row, was telemarketing. That category includes imposter scams, robocalls, and violations of the ‘Do Not Call List.’
Landlord-tenant complaints followed close behind, alongside identity theft, home improvement disputes and telecommunication scams.
The Bureau for Consumer Protection is tasked with investigating consumer complaints, mediating resolutions, and training consumers on how to avoid finding themselves in the midst of the tricky tactics and misleading messages that often lead to complaints.
Those who feel victim to violations of Wisconsin’s consumer protection laws are advised to visit the Bureau online or to call the consumer protection hotline at (800) 422-7128.
