Major League Baseball has decided not to make a counteroffer to the most recent proposal by the players.
The Major League Baseball Players Association made the offer Tuesday and M-L-B was expected to respond.
Instead, it has requested a federal mediator to step in and help resolve the issues between the two sides.
No follow-up meetings are scheduled.
The Athletic is reporting the players association is likely to turn down the federal mediator request.
Industry experts say if spring training doesn’t start until mid-March, that will mean some regular-season games would have to be called off.
