Two people are facing charges after a Manitowoc child had to be transported to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee with severe injuries.
Officers with the Manitowoc Police Department were called to Aurora Medical Center last Wednesday (January 12th) after a child was admitted.
The doctors told investigators that the child had a 1% chance of survival.
Officers interviewed the two women who were caring for the child, including the mother.
The 23-year-old revealed that when the child was born, both she and the infant tested positive for cocaine and that she had done a couple of lines about a week ago.
Both women told the officers that the child was only drinking about 2 ounces of formula and would go to sleep.
The child reportedly began refusing to consume any formula, so the women brought the child to Aurora.
A search of the residence where the baby was staying was conducted on Friday (January 14th) which uncovered a smoking device used to inject crack cocaine.
The mother and the 53-year-old woman also caring for the child were both charged with Neglecting a Child Causing Great Bodily Harm, and the second woman was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
