The Green Bay Packers are offering strong opposition to a state lawmaker’s plan to disband the Lambeau Field stadium district.
Republican State Representative Doug Steffen presented the details of his plan to the Green Bay City Council’s Finance Committee Tuesday.
His bill would transfer assets and liabilities of the district to the city – except for $81 million set aside for operations and maintenance of the stadium.
The Packers say Steffen’s approach would bust the stadium lease and dissolve a relationship that has worked well for nearly 20 years.
The discussion is academic for now.
Steffen’s proposal won’t pass this session and he plans to reintroduce it in January 2023.
