Following the ice rescue of 27 individuals over the weekend on the Bay of Green Bay, the Port of Green Bay is urging people to be careful.
The Port revealed that the incident was “a direct result of high winds” but warned that large boat activity is expected at the port over the next couple of weeks.
Port Director Dean Haen warned, “For those using the bay for ice fishing, snowmobiling or ice boating, please stay clear of the shipping channel and other areas that could be dangerous.”
The Port previously posted advisories on social media about the U.S. Coast Guard and its ice-breaking operations.
Coast Guard officials recommend all recreational ice users plan their activities carefully, dress appropriately, use caution on the ice, and stay away from shipping channels.
