Some details have come to light regarding the lawsuit filed by the Manitowoc Area Visitor and Convention Bureau against the City of Manitowoc.
The suit, which was also brought forth by the Wisconsin Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus, and The Hearty Olive, claims that the City broke state law when they broke off their tourism agreement with the MAVCB.
State statute states that a tourism entity must be “a nonprofit organization that came into existence before Jan. 1, 2015, spends at least 51% of its revenues on tourism promotion and tourism development, and provides destination marketing staff and services for the tourism industry in a municipality.”
The complaint was filed on December 16th, and the City has yet to file a response.
The MAVCB has stated that they will continue to operate as usual, albeit in their new location at 3733 Dewy Street.
