Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels is looking back on 2021 with pride.
While on the WCUB Breakfast Club yesterday (January 4th) Nickels recalled spending quite a bit of time in the Industrial Park, as four businesses broke ground on their new projects, including Bank First, Ammo Inc, Redline Plastics, and the Dramm Corporation.
“Which means we are going to have ribbon cuttings for those in 2022,” Nickels said. “That is probably the most amount of businesses that popped up in the Industrial Park in one year than we have ever seen.”
There were also good things happening downtown and in the housing market locally.
“We saw the groundbreaking for the Rive North Apartments in the River Point District, and we saw a lot of infrastructure over there, with places like PetSkull opening up,” the mayor stated. “Home prices are selling for way above asking price, which is a positive because people are getting money out of their investments.”
As far as 2022 is concerned, the Mayor said they aren’t slowing down.
City officials met with another business yesterday (January 4th) which is looking to build in the city.
Nickels said that “You are going to see some news over the next few weeks and months of other businesses, new businesses that are looking at the area, and even more downtown.”
One of the biggest changes coming to the Downtown area is the transition to two-way traffic on 8th and 10th Streets.
Nickels said that they are currently working out how exactly that is going to go, but he expects the transition to take effect in late July or early August.
